To the baby in My Womb
I don't know your name - yet.
I haven't looked into your eyes
or smiled at your smile.
But the very instant, the very moment,
I saw your black and white tadpole-like figure
swimming on the screen,
I blinked away tears of a strange new love.
Immediately, I grew ten pairs of arms
so that I could cuddle you, protect you,
clothe you, feed you, warm you.
I sprouted eyes at the back of my head
so that I could watch you, follow you,
gloat over you, worry over you,
cry over you, for you, with you.
And immediately,
my heart grew larger and larger
so that I could store this strange new love
I felt for you.
I don't know your name - yet.
But my heart is full to bursting,
with this strange new love
that you have given birth to.

The day before
The day before, I sit here and wonder
will I laugh or cry when I see you
for the first time.
I wonder who will you look like
and may be even love more-
your father or me ?
I wonder about your first smile,
your first step, your first word.
I wonder about your dreams
and whether they'll be the same as
the ones I dream for you.
I think about the way you kick
as I write these lines
and the wonder I felt
the first time you kicked,
and how, after tomorrow,
I won't feel those kicks again.
The day before I sit here in wonder
and wonder how tomorrow,
you will change my life forever.

At Last I Know
Here you are. At last.
Here, in the world.
Here, in our home.
Here, in my arms.
And now, I finally know your name, your face.
But I also know more than I ever thought I would.
I now know the smell of innocence.
I now know the touch of purity.
I now know what it is to hold a piece of my heart in my hands.
I now know the value of a ten-minute snooze.
I also know those peaceful nights of slumber are a thing of the past.
But the single, most important thing is that
at last, after nine months of waiting and wondering,
I now know you.
